Media Analyst

The Media Analyst will be counted upon to derive insights from data for a large retail client while working with the rest of the client team and the technology/analytics team within Gain Theory.

As such, he/she will be expected to regularly make recommendations to the media planning team based upon those insights and establish a highly collaborative relationship with the analytics team, to constantly seek creative ways to gather, cleanse, visualize and analyze incoming data.

This position requires both a strategic and tactical viewpoint, aided by intellectual curiosity, strong problem-solving skills, along with an understanding of digital and traditional media. Be prepared to describe your experience in deriving insights in a data-rich environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Aides the planning team in measuring the success of media campaigns, comparing this performance to the client’s objectives, and constantly seeking ways to improve the accuracy or timeliness of this measurement
  • Conducts client-specific analyses across all media channels where Gain Theory has access to the appropriate data
  • Routinely collaborate with the media team to arrive at recommendations supported by data and analytics
  • Contribute to the design and measurement of new tactics deemed appropriate in furthering the client’s objectives
  • Be in command of data in order to present findings accurately and succinctly to internal and external teams
  • Stay up to date on current data and technology developments and advertising industry trends
  • Communicate with data vendors and media partners for data collection and Q&A purposes


Knowledge Experience/Ability:

  • BA/BS degree required
  • 1-2 years’ professional experience analyzing media data
  • Proven analytical skills; ability to analyze raw data, draw conclusions, and develop actionable recommendations
  • Knowledge of visual techniques for data analysis and presentation
  • Experience in the analysis of large data sets to find useful relationships
  • Knowledge of or experience using one or more of the following would be beneficial:
    • Multi-channel attribution analyses
    • Syndicated media data sources (Nielsen, comScore, etc)
    • Third party ad serving platforms, such as Sizmek, or Doubleclick
    • Media planning tools such as Symphony or Prisma


Technical Skills:

  • Working knowledge of databases and how to query them
  • Experience using SPSS, SAS, R, or another statistical package would be a plus
  • Experience using or designing reports using any of the available Business Intelligence platforms would be a plus
